Lancashire Police appeal - Did you see this incident? Are you the motorist who saw it happen?

We are appealing for witnesses following a serious assault in Preston, and would specifically like to identify the person who drove past and helped put a stop to it.

The incident occurred at around 4.30pm on July 15th on Holme Slack Lane when the victim – a man aged in his 30s - was approached by a group of four or five men.

They assaulted him, including with a machete, and left him with a slash wound to his head which required hospital treatment.

A 28-year-old man from Preston has since been arrested on suspicion of assault – GBH and released under investigation.

Enquiries have been ongoing since the attack and we are now asking anybody with information who has not yet been spoken to by police to get in touch.

We would also like to speak to the driver of a black saloon-type vehicle – possibly a Volkswagen or BMW – who was travelling down Holme Slack Lane at the time of the incident. It was reported that someone in the car shouted at the group, causing the attack to come to an end.

DC Laura Fagan, of Preston CID, said:
“This was a nasty attack which left the victim with a slash wound to his head. Thankfully somebody approached in a vehicle as the attack was occurring and shouted at the offenders, who then made off. We would now like to speak to the occupant or occupants of the vehicle as we believe they may have seen all or part of what happened.

“We are also asking anybody else with information to come forward. If you know anything at all, please get in touch with us.”
Anybody with information is asked to get in touch on 101, quoting log 1108 of July 15th.
